Is the thought truly the only thing that counts? Let me guide you in the right direction with a some tips, advice and suggestions to make this time in your relationship more fun and less stressful. Holidays should be about fun but this question comes every Christmas, Birthday or milestone when new partners inevitable asks: “What in the world do I get my boyfriend/girlfriend for Christmas/birthday this year?”

I don’t think it’s a tricky questions at all. What makes it tricky is our feelings… worried, insecure, desire to convey the right message, concerned how your partner will interpret the gesture… especially when you’re at the beginning of a new relationship – or worse, are still in the “are we/aren’t we” stage of dating, but married couples also have to traverse the gift-giving landmines too.

It’s a delicate balancing act:

  • Do I spend a lot?
  • Don’t wanna come off cheap
  • Too generic
  • Too clingy
  • Too practical-Too romantic

The issue then becomes… what unspoken sending about our level of committment, my intent and her expectations.

People think, the longer you’re together, the easier it gets get, but other issues arise.
—sweet vs. sappy
—traditional vs. original
—handmade vs. expensive
—practical vs luxury

Fortunately, Great-Gift-Guide is here to help you through choosing the best gifts for your boyfriend or girlfriend!

Solutions to help you hit that sweet spot when buying a gift in a relationship:

  1. Common sense. Don’t let “love” cloud your senses. Gage where your relationship is and give what you can afford comfortably. Period.
  2. From the heart, not from a sense of obligation. Don’t worry about feeling silly or vulnerable. If you chose the right person, they will be open to your sincere gesture.
  3. Be wise. Gifts should ALWAYS be about the receiver. Hopefully you’ve been paying attention and you know a little about the person, they have mentioned things, that’s gives you the direction to go in. Thoughtful gifts shows you were paying attention. Major points awarded!
  4. Don’t shy away from handmade, homemade expressions of love. If done right, they can be a home run… done wrong, it can be a disaster. My tip: Do It RIGHT! 🙂

Lastly: Don’t forget the card (unless she’s like me and finds them a waste of paper). If you really want to ramp it up… write a quick poem, a few lines is enough and you will have her swooning! LOL
